With BRIGHT, everything works—open and closed. Expanding our expertise in furniture test stands

With a current project for the Turkish Standards Institute (TSE) in Turkey, BRIGHT demonstrates how its many years of experience in the automotive sector can be successfully applied to new industries. Together with its partner companies IMASAN and Hanke Prüftechnik, the team developed a test bench for furniture testing that can be used to test fold-out sofas, beds, and office chairs, among other items, in accordance with international standards.

BRIGHT’s task was to develop a test bench that automatically simulates the everyday stresses placed on furniture in accordance with international standards. “Basically, we test the daily opening and closing of a sofa over a long period of time,” explains project manager Ibrahim Dinc from BRIGHT. To do this, the furniture is secured in the test rig, positions are precisely programmed, and automated motion sequences are then executed. A gripper moves the piece of furniture precisely between different positions to replicate real-world usage scenarios as accurately as possible.

From order placement to on-site commissioning in Turkey in less than four months

According to Dinc, a particular challenge lay above all in the short implementation timeframe and the need to familiarize themselves with a new technical field. While engine test benches primarily focus on high forces and power, furniture test benches require precision and sensitivity. “We needed a good solution, especially for the design of the components and cylinders,” which Dinc and his team developed together with the customer in a very short time.

A strong partnership as the foundation for sustainable success

According to Dinc, the close collaboration between the client, the design team, and project management was key to the project’s success. International cooperation also played an important role: through successful implementation and close communication with the Turkish client, trust and long-term prospects were established, laying the groundwork for potential follow-up projects.

Consistently tapping into new areas of application

With the furniture test bench, BRIGHT is strategically expanding its portfolio beyond the automotive sector. “It’s important and exciting for us to tackle new areas and gain a foothold there,” says Dinc. The project demonstrates how existing expertise in automation, mechanics, and test technology can be applied to new industrial sectors and exemplifies the BRIGHT approach: customized test systems, implemented with technical precision, regulatory expertise, and interdisciplinary collaboration. This results in solutions that reflect real-world applications.
