Recap: HZwo Technology Workshop “Testing, Inspection, Certification!” – BRIGHT at the Hydrogen Community’s Network Highlight

17. February 2026

On February 4, 2026, the hydrogen technology cluster HZwo e. V. held its technology workshop “Testing, Inspection, Certification!” in Magdeburg Barleben. The event was hosted by HORIBA Fuel Con. It provided a high-caliber platform for the exchange of knowledge and experience relating to hydrogen technologies, testing procedures, and test infrastructures— key topics to the successful further advancement of hydrogen applications in industry and mobility. Sebastian Dressel, General Manager Sales & Projects, represented BRIGHT on site and actively contributed to the event.

The evening before, Sebastian took part in the HZwo networking evening—a successful start with many exciting conversations and valuable new connections.

Focus on hydrogen technologies: testing and qualification

The importance of efficient testing and inspection procedures in the context of hydrogen cannot be overstated: only through precise analysis and qualification can development times be shortened, quality standards ensured, and the market ramp-up of new technologies be efficiently designed. The workshop brought together decision-makers from industry, research, and networks and offered practical insights into applications of hydrogen technologies—from safe conditioning and dosing to implementation in engines and gas turbines.

Presentation by BRIGHT: Secure path from storage to propulsion

Gert Schlegel (Head of Network and Member Management at HZwo e.V.) and Michael Conrad (Managing Director of Horiba HORIBA FuelCon GmbH) kicked-off the event. BRIGHT was represented by Sebastian Dressel, who gave a presentation on hydrogen technologies from the perspective of the testing and inspection industry. In his presentation, “From Storage to Propulsion: Safe Conditioning and Dosing of Hydrogen for Engines and Gas Turbines,” he addressed technical challenges, safety aspects, and process stability. He demonstrated in a practical manner how research, industry, and testing expertise must work together to make hydrogen systems reliable and market-ready.

Extensive technical program

The workshop program covered a wide range of topics—from virtual test environments for reducing development costs, to the opportunities and possibilities of RCS in hydrogen and fuel cells, to modern quality assurance in the hydrogen ecosystem. This diversity made the event both practically relevant and strategically valuable for participants from industry, research, and start-ups.

Networking and exchange of experiences

In addition to technical presentations, the workshop offered numerous opportunities for networking and exchange. Personal discussions identified starting points for joint projects and opened up new perspectives for technology transfer. For companies like BRIGHT, which are actively involved in the development and qualification of technical systems, such networking is crucial to jointly driving innovative solutions forward. Another highlight was the informative tour of the production facilities at HORIBA FuelCon GmbH.

The HZwo workshop once again highlighted HZwo’s role as a central hub for hydrogen expertise in Europe.

Hydrogen technologies as drivers of the energy transition

Hydrogen is considered a central component of the energy transition – whether for storing renewable energy, decarbonizing industrial processes or as a clean fuel for mobility solutions. A strong focus on testing and inspection procedures is crucial to making these technologies safe, reliable and market-ready. Networks such as the Hydrogen Innovation Center (HIC) in Chemnitz promote infrastructure, research and collaborations that accelerate the growth of the hydrogen economy.

Conclusion: innovation, expertise and networking

For BRIGHT, the HZwo workshop was an excellent opportunity for an in-depth exchange on hydrogen technologies, test methods and current market trends. Sebastian Dressel’s presentation and our participation in the networking evening underline our expertise and our commitment to developing safe, high-performance hydrogen systems.

We would like to thank HORIBA Fuel Con, HZwo e. V., the transformation hub cH2ance and everyone involved for the inspiring event. The workshop showed once again that the vision of a sustainable, hydrogen-based future can only be realized through the joint efforts of research, industry and technology partners.
