Description

The LT-PEM fuel cell test bench is designed for the operation and validation of fuel cell stacks with a power output of up to 5 kW. The system enables reproducible testing under realistic operating conditions and combines comprehensive gas, pressure, and temperature control with precise humidification, an integrated cooling circuit, and an electronic load.

All relevant media and cooling circuits are equipped with sensors to monitor temperature, pressure, and conductivity. An integrated CVM system measures at least 30 individual cell voltages and provides transparency at the stack level.

Challenge

Research and development departments need test benches that allow LT-PEM fuel cells to be tested safely, automatically, and in a reproducible manner. Controlled media conditioning, stable pressure and temperature control, comprehensive measurement data acquisition, and the safe handling of hydrogen are particularly challenging.

Solution

The fuel cell test bench combines media supply, conditioning, load simulation, monitoring, and safety technology into a single integrated system. Mass flow controllers for H₂, N₂, and air, separate pressure regulation for the anode and cathode, a gas humidifier with dew point control, and gas trace heating up to 130 °C ensure defined test conditions.

Benefits at a Glance

A test system for demanding development environments: realistic, flexible, and designed to deliver reliable measurement results.

Advantages

  • High flexibility in dew point control
  • Comprehensive media and temperature management
  • Industrial automation (Beckhoff, Python API)
  • Comprehensive package including IBN
  • Wide range of electrical power ratings
